The library exists in order to promote the inhabitants’ equal rights to education and literary and artistic interests. The municipal inhabitants are given opportunities for learning at all ages through a continuous development of their knowledge and skills.
In the wintertime the library in the town centre and the branch library in Degerby are open 44 hours a week.The Pojo mobile library passes through Barösund and Fagervik every other week. The old people’s home Ingahemmet also provides inhabitatants with the opportunity to borrow books.
The schools Kyrkfjärdens skola and Merituulen koulu have their own school libraries. If needed, the library supports the shools in library matters.
From the main library you can borrow books, period newspapers, spoken word books, CDs, DVDs, VHS cassettes and CD ROM disks. Library customers have free access to the Internet and the opportunity to print material.

The library in the town centre has a cosy Internet café, Café Wilhelmsdahl.
